Design DIY: Decorative Wall Art

The holidays always inspire me to try my hand at crafts and this year is no different; putting glitter on everything, changing my toilet paper to festive holiday paper, and baking cookies every hour on the hour – I essentially turn into one of Santa’s elves. This season was no different, and after I found this simple DIY on Pinterest, I couldn’t resist a trip to Utrecht to get started.

Here are the supplies:

-Canvas (I used a 16×20)

-Three to four different colors of your choice acrylic paint

-Painters tape

-Straight Edge

-Pencil with eraser

-Newspaper

First, figure out your design. Use your straight edge and pencil to map out your idea. I did a chevron design.

Second, lay down your pattern with your painters tape.
TIP: Buy painters tape that is isn’t white, this will help you see your pattern more clearly.

Lay down your canvas on newspaper for the painting process. Next, I sprayed the base of my canvas with gold.

Using your acrylics, layer different colors and brushes and experiment with how you the paint on the canvas.

Lastly, when the acrylics dry, peel the tape back to reveal your design.

And voila! You’re a modern day Van-Gogh, girl. Hang up your masterpiece and await the compliments. Or since we are in the season of giving – give the gift of art to one of your closest friends, they’ll think its awesome, and they’ll have a hard time believing its from you, you Renaissance man… I mean, girl.
