Funky Fixes: Melamine Plates

Funky Fixes: Melamine Plates

While shopping the other day, I was surprised to find myself swooning over dinner plates. These weren’t your average plates; they were decorated with anything from floral prints to cute animals. I particularly love Thomas Paul’s Russian Doll plates. Chicly designed dinnerware is a growing trend, and it seems like such a shame to only show them off at dinner. So, what’s the fix? Turn these dinnerware delights into tasteful décor. Seriously, these won’t be your mama’s decorative plates.

What you need:
1. Several melamine dinner plates (melamine is important! … it’s the Goldilocks of plates- not too heavy, not too light)
2. Thin ribbon
3. Scissors
4. Hot glue gun
What to do:
First choose your plates. When deciding on the plate, there are two routes you can go: pre-decorated or solid colored. The beauty of choosing a solid colored plate is personalization. Solid plates can be easily decorated; try using stencils and spray paint, precut letters, and/or ribbon. After choosing and decorating your plates, cut your ribbon into 2 inch pieces; you will need a piece of ribbon for every plate. Next, hot glue both ends of the ribbon to the back of the plate; this will act as the hook when hanging the plate. Once the glue dries your artwork is finished and is ready to be displayed!
