The Style Guru: Sheer Madness

My friend recently bought a very see through maxi dress in bright blue. Now don’t get the wrong idea, she had a bodice on underneath to hold onto her dignity. She felt a bit self conscious going out but it didn’t take me long to realise that she was probably the most covered up girl in the club. My friend showed off her figure in an elegant way. I wish other girls could catch on to the trend.

The sheer trend has been around for a good few seasons now. It started off as a trend of it’s own but now we see translucent fabrics used in nearly every collection.

If you dare to bare your underwear make sure it’s the same colour as the fabric especially if it’s totally transparent. For more translucent fabric, you can get away with showing more. Try a bandeau underneath a sheer shirt or a leotard underneath a sheer maxi dress.

For ladies blessed with curves don’t worry about showing off too much. Choose vibrant colours as the colour will be noticed before your cleavage. Pop on a camisole underneath in the same colour. The sheer trend is supposed to be classy and subtle. Don’t use it as a way to show off everything. If your top or dress is sheer, don’t emphasize your shape by wearing a push up bra or a belt. It’s about creating an illusion. If your skirt is sheer, wear a long sleeve shirt.
You can funk up your outfit by wearing a printed dress underneath a sheer, loose maxi dress. One of my favorite looks is teaming sheer and lace together. Like a lace midi skirt with a sheer blouse.
