The Style Guru: Sparkle ‘n’ Shine

Christmas is less than two weeks away and I’m finding myself gravitating towards everything shiny and sparkly.  Metallic and sequins are flooding the department stores and I’m dying to deck myself out in glitz for New Years Eve.

Are you scared you’ll look like a disco ball in glittery clothing?  Play it safe with sparkly details.  A sequined bag or glittery hat may be enough to get you into the holiday season.   I love sparkly shoes, even for the day time.  From metallic shades to reds or blues, you can pair them with anything.  They look cute with skinny jeans and can jazz up a casual outfit.

Metallic is huge this fall and they’re not just limited to the usual silver and gold.  There are plenty of patent jackets, leggings and dresses out around.  You could team a metallic jacket in white or even a color with a leather skirt for an edgy biker look.

If you opt for sequins, make sure you have simple fabrics to match with.  Sequins can clash with wool and obvious textures like lace.  They work better with shiny fabrics or patent clothes.  Sequined jackets or boleros are great for wearing over plain dresses.  They can also be great for spicing up a pair of jeans or boring T-shirt.
