Design DIY: Shark Tooth Necklace

After an intense movie marathon that comprised of me, my new purple robe, matching slippers (thanks Mom!), and my boyfriend: Ben & Jerry’s ice cream – I was on my last leg and watching the romantic comedy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I couldn’t help but wonder where Mila Kunis got her beautiful shark tooth necklace that she wears throughout the movie? The next day after a trivial trip to H&M, I saw a sales associate wearing a similar style shark tooth necklace. It was a sign from the fashion Gods, so I began my investigation.

The necklace she wore in the movie is by a company called Pade Vavra . While this beautiful gold tipped shark tooth is gorgeous, the $225.00 US price tag was not, and I couldn’t justify another outlandish expense, so I declared this to be my next DIY column.

Now readers don’t fret, I am not having you go into shark infested waters to acquire a shark’s tooth, but instead, from the safety of your own home you can purchase online your materials.

I got my supplies from Etsy and Ebay. I had to make accounts for both since I had not used either site before. No worries – it only took me a couple moments to register and before I knew it my supplies were on my way!

On Ebay I found a company that sells fossilized shark teeth, some of which are already wrapped in gold toned wire. If you find a tooth that isn’t wrapped, request if they can make the bail for you. The tooth I bought was $16.00. On Esty, I found a gold vermeille chain for $5.00.

The directions are pretty simple, loop your chain through the opening (bail) and you have your very own jaw-dropping necklace.
