Couture Buys for the College Budget: Kanye West Spring/Summer 2012

As you finalize your New Year’s resolutions (Stop biting nails, lay-off the Dairy Queen blizzards, etc.) it’s time to make way for the oh-so cliché “New Year, New You.” As you fashion forward Carbonites know, the fashion industry is always ten steps ahead of whatever trends we’re currently rocking. Though we have only started the New Year, Vogue has been publishing their Spring/Summer 2012 look books. The always impressive Chanel (Paris/Bombay) Just Cavalli, and Betsey Johnson showcased polished looks that captivated the runway. I always browse a look book with the intention to be wowed but I was extremely inspired when I discovered the elegant, distinguished, superior designs created by none other than Kanye West himself.

I’m not saying I expected anything less than entrancing trends from Ye, but the gorgeous cut-out dresses, sophisticated blazers and fur shearlings are beyond incredible. 2012 is all about refining your look and stepping it up. The dress/blazer combo is not only adorable, but weather efficient all year round. To achieve the glamorous look of a Kanye West collection model, go for a fitted, neutral colored cutout, pair with an under-toned blazer and some simple accessories. To don flirty club-like attire, go for the faux fur cover up over a more dramatic, deep v-cut dress. Find these pieces at stores like H&M and Singer22.com (I promise it won’t cost nearly as much as your spring semester books.) Business meetings, a girl’s night out, date night, or shopping in the city: this look is fierce.
