The Style Guru: Beach Stylin’

Living in Ireland, I don’t have to worry about summer clothes just yet, but I’m sure I’ll be jetting off to somewhere sunny very soon. I always have great intentions when it comes to what I pack in my luggage, coordinating my outfits and putting them into piles so I can just throw it on when I get there. Then, after day one of baking in the 40° (104 degrees Fahrenheit)… C heat, my delicate Irish skin feels like it’s about to melt off. I end up scraping my hair back and I’m very close to just shaving it all off. Looking back at my holiday photos is never as fun as I think it’s going to be. My face always looks shiny and my outfits don’t do much for me. This year I’m determined to put more sensible outfits together and look stylish on the beach, pool and at the cocktail bar. I’m going to eliminate any clingy, heavy fabrics and bring loose, cool clothes only.
Stay away from polyester, leather and nylon. Thin cotton batiste’s and voile’s are cool and comfortable for shirts and blouses. Linens, cottons, rayon’s, and natural fibers do tend to breathe better while synthetics tend to hold in body heat.

Loving ‘Ivy’s’ ensemble from 90210. Sheer harem pants, leotard and sandals. You might have to lose the denim shirt, but it’s a nice touch.

You can always count on model and style icon, Alexa Chung to bring you inspiration. A t-shirt and shorts is something everyone has in their closet. Make sure the t-shirt is lightweight and heat resistant fabric like 100 percent cotton or silk.

There’s nothing I love more than lace mixed with lace. Great for day time and can be dressed up with wedges for night time. Make sure the fabric is 100 percent cotton as cheaper brands will mix cotton with itchy fabrics such as nylon or polyester.
