The Style Guru: How To Wear Anything

The glue that pulls an outfit together is often just confidence and attitude.” —Mr. Newton, street style photographer

Ever wondered how some guys and girls have the confidence to wear what they like?  It’s not because they are prettier than you or that they crave attention, it’s about knowing what suits you and then breaking those rules.  It’s vital that your outfit makes you feel good, don’t worry if anyone else likes it.  People will always judge. If you are drawn to something, you’re drawn to it for a reason, so go with it.  If you like what you’re wearing, others will like what you’re wearing.  It’s never the shy people who set trends.

  • Smile, there’s something intriguing about a happy person and people will be drawn to you
  • Stand Tall, this can be a tough one but posture is a huge giveaway as to whether you are confident or not
  • Eye contact, by looking at your feet when talking to someone you’re inviting people to pass judgement on you, so look them in the eye and dazzle them with your beauty
  • Don’t criticize others or yourself, it will draw attention to your weak points
  • Don’t ask for an opinion, unless you are really stuck, the less you care about other people’s opinion’s on what you wear, the better
If you are petite and think you can’t wear full length dresses then break that fashion rule.  You may need a belt or you might need to show off your arms or neck so you don’t feel swamped.
If you are curvy and you’ve been told that you can’t wear print, forget it.  Try a few printed bits on before you miss out on the fun of floral and polka dots.  Stick to colors and silhouette’s that flatter you and own your style.
The worst thing you can do is crumble when you’re giving you a compliment.  If someone is after going to the trouble of admiring your top/hair/shoes, then don’t shoot that person down by saying, ‘I look ugly’ or ‘I hate what I’m wearing.’  Instead just say thanks and smile, show you are genuinely grateful for the comment and that you agree with their them.  There’s nothing wrong with being proud of the way you look, just keep your modesty.
J. Lo vs Alex Gerrard

You can see here how posture and a confident glaze changes the sillhouette of this dress.  Makes you want to go out and buy thedress that Jennifer Lopes is wearing but I don’t care much for the dress that Alex Gerrard is wearing, even though they’re both the same.
