Designer Spotlight: Shop Chic Stud

So you’re browsing through Pinterest or Look Book & come across the cutest fashion photography. The Interview

Carbon Magazine: Where and when did your company get started?

Kar’Lei: I started Shop Chic Stud a little more than 8 months ago when I was living in Sacramento. I moved to Los Angeles for school and ever since then I’ve been studding away like crazy.

CM: What gave you the idea to start Shop Chic Stud?

K: I’ve always loved stud details and love how girls can throw some studs on something and instantly have an edge. I like how feminine the bras are but how the studded detailing gives it unique personality.

CM: What makes your brand stand out from shops that have caught on to the studding trend?

K: I truly take my time when making a custom studded item and make sure each item is perfect. I do everything solely by myself and love working with my customers to make an item that’s 100% them.

CM: What is your favorite spring/summer 2012 trend?

K: I absolutely love all the floral prints popping up and of course I want to add some studs to every floral item I see! The die is also one of my favorites.

CM: If you could see your product on a celebrity, who would it be?

K: I would die if Rihanna wore one of my designs! She definitely has the attitude to rock one.

CM: Do you have a favorite piece you’ve ever designed?

K: I’m always adding new items but my new favorite is the floral studded bustier top. It’s perfect for the spring and summer months and I can see it being paired with a maxi skirt, destroyed jean shorts or a high wasted mini!

CM: How do you keep up-to-date with the latest trends?

K: I always encourage customers to let me know what they want and I love taking custom orders. I’m naturally obsessed with fashion so I’m always keeping my eyes open picking up on the latest trends.

CM: How would you describe your city’s style?

K: Los Angeles is a place where you can truly wear whatever you want and be comfortable embracing your personal style.

CM: What advice do you have for aspiring designers?

K: Listen to your customers, design things you love and remember to keep quality a top priority!
