Love Sick: Spark Up Dating

Love Sick: Spark Up Dating

There’s nothing quite like going on a first date with someone. You spend forever getting all dolled up, go see a movie and enjoy dinner and some ice cream afterwards. You get dropped off and if things went well, maybe get a kiss at the end of the night. By the time you make it into bed, you’re thinking it was the best date ever.

Flash forward to 6 months later, you’ve been in a relationship with this guy and the dinner and a movie date thing has lost most of it’s charm. You’re in a relationship rut. The best way to fix this rut is too reawaken that spark by trying out some fun new date ideas together.

Here’s my prescription for ways sure to ignite the passion between you and your special friend:

1.  What’s more romantic than watching the sunset on the peak of a mountain? Bringing food to watch a sunset on the peak of that moutain! Hike any of the surrounding moutains in your area and pack a picnic basket of your favorite treats to enjoy at the top. I suggest red Gatorade, pre-made turkey sandwiches and copious amounts of chocolate. To enhance your romance look up sunset times online and coordinate to reach the peak just before that glowy orb settles on the horizon.

2.  Go to an opening of an art gallery at your local art musuem. Even if you’re not all artsy-fartsy, there’s usually an oddball artist with unusual pieces to make you think or at least laugh about the absurdity of modern art. Plus, there’s almost always some kind of food and drink offered at openings. Extra plus, this food and drink is almost always wine and cheese! Mmm Mmm deliciousness! Who doesn’t love slightly tipsy cheese kisses, am I right?

3.  Take a day trip! Research the areas around your city and find somewhere that offers something quirky and interesting. I personally believe that there is no better way to get to know a person than to spend at least 3 hours in a car with them. Not only will this date give you the opportunity to get to know your boyfriend better, but it will also give you a chance to see something you’ve never seen before.

4.  Do something that gets your heart racing. If it’s around Halloween, visit a haunted house. If not, look into haunted areas around where you live or tell each other ghost stories under a homemade fort with a flashlight providing the sole light in the room. Studies show that experiencing something scary sends the body into a fight or flight response, causing a racing heart, sweaty palms, etc. People often confuse these feelings to the same feelings one experiences when falling in love. Thus scary stories=super hot hookups. Yeah, baby, yeah.

5.  Make food together. Tasty food makes for happy people and cooking that food up together will be a funny and challenging experience that just may create a new hobby for the two of you. I suggest going to a recipe website and creating the first recipe you find. This will give you a chance to impress by showing off your skills with a potato peeler and will also provide you with a delicious recipe you can use for the rest of your life. By the end of the night you’ll be cuddling together in food coma bliss.
