Foreign Friday: The Harder Klum

After leaving Germany, our next stop was Interlaken, Switzerland- a beautiful place! The train ride in was absolutely stunning, lots of snow capped mountains and the bluest lakes you’ve ever seen. Upon arriving at our hostel, The Funny Farm, we were greeted by a 150lb St. Bernard named Spliff and I knew Interlaken and I would be getting along just fine.

Big doggies aside, what I wanted to chat about today is the Harder Klum in Interlaken. It’s about a five minute walk west from Interlaken Ost train station and gives you access via a funicular to possibly the most incredible view of Interlaken. The funicular ride is ten minutes and costs about 18 euros round trip, if I remember correctly. The price is well worth it, especially when comparing prices to visit the Jungfrau from Grindelwald. Once atop the mountain, you’re greeted with a lovely view of the city and both lakes. There’s a restaurant at the top where you can sip on some coffee or beer as well. If you’re the adventurous type, there’s wonderful hiking trails with bridges and multiple routes around the mountain. I was bummed that my knee wasn’t feeling up to that, although JD and I were quite content with a cold beer and the gorgeous view.
