Love Sick: If Music Be the Food of Love, Play On

Hundreds of girls around the world would probably come to the agreement that a man playing a private concert just for them would be their ultimate romantic fantasy. Why do you think guys in bands have so many groupies? However, I do not share in this fantasy because I’ve had more than one man play music for me, and it’s actually pretty awkward.

Imagine yourself just sitting there, him with his guitar or harmonica or oboe all ready to play. He starts playing and you realize, “Oh man, what do I do while he’s playing? Do I sit here and look into his eyes? Do I close my eyes and smile? Do I look off into the corner and slightly bob my head? What do I do?!” And then it’s no longer the romantic scene that you imagined, but instead a few minutes of uncomfortable self-awareness.

So what do you do in this situation?

I feel it’s best to look at their hands while they are playing, because then it seems as though you are appreciating the mastery of their ability. Also, if you can slightly move to the music, it will show that you’re really into it. And even if it sucked, you should definitely say that you liked it because they are probably embarrassed about playing solo and they probably wouldn’t be doing it unless he really wanted to impress you.

After that, try to never be in that same position again because girl, it is never going to be as romantic as it is in the movies.
