Conscious Fashion: Conscious Designer Crushes

I’ve put together a short list of some of my favorite conscious designers.  These companies and designers are coming up with ways to use eco-friendly materials and methods in their clothes.

John Patrick, whose collections were featured at New York Fashion Week this year, is at the top of my list.  Patrick’s organic materials make for classic looks with clean lines.  This line is simply called Organic.  I would give an arm for one of these pea coats.  John Patrick won the Ecco Domani Sustainable Design Award in 2010, an award given to designers whose collections carefully and intentionally incorporate eco-friendly materials in creative and innovative ways.

Bono, U2’s frontman, has a fashion line called Edun.  The clothes were created by a collective inKenya.  The opportunity for these women to create these clothes is a valuable source of growth and income for the community.  According to mtv.com, %40 percent of this line is produced inAfrica.  The jumpers with bold patterns are my favorite.

Jonano is a company that prides itself in using products from organic agriculture practices.  Jonano makes womens’ casual and business clothes and also has baby clothes.  This business casual satin dress is on my Christmas list.  It’s made of Organic Bamboo Sateen.  The cut is very flattering, it’s work appropriate, and perfect for date night.
