The Style Guru: In With the Old, In With the New

Summer is my favorite time of the year and as soon as the Spring/Summer trends hit the shops I’m ready to exchange my bulky winter coats for shorts and shades.

So even though I have another few months to wait until I can fully deck myself out in summer gear, I am so crazy about this year’s summer trends.  Before you go spring cleaning your entire wardrobe from 2011, here’s some tips on how to incorporate last year’s trends with this year’s.

Brights are going nowhere.  Each catwalk had a cocktail of fresh, acid colors.  Think tiffany blue, canary yellow and orangeade.

Ice cream tones will also be everywhere.  Mint green, lemon and baby pink can all be blocked together.  Team your bright colours from last year with whites or pastel shades.  Lemons can be mixed with orange, whites can break up a colored suit and baby pinks can be teamed with darker shades of pink.

African prints dominated Spring/Summer fashion weeks.

Feathers, fringing and bold colors will be very popular by the summer.  Take your tribal printed clothes from last year and make this trend your own.  Use ethnic prints and feather accessories that have been around the last few seasons and you’ll be looking global traveler chic. This trend can be layered and teamed with earthy colors that everyone has in their wardrobe.

Iridescent, bright metallic with a hint of color is also going to be a big trend this season.

Leather can look great with shiny metallic shades.  Keep your shiny pants from your Christmas wardrobe and dress them up with a shimmery top or a subtle color. Don’t opt for a dull color to match silver or gold.  Blues and greens can add a touch of freshness to this look.
