Design DIY: Tea Tree Oil Body Scrub

Ahhh…the first month of the New Year, a time for renewing, reviving, and hell – why not exfoliating? I found a perfect DIY body scrub online and tried it out after a horrific case of the Mondays. I scrubbed the anxiety and concerns of the day away; its therapeutic scent left my skin feeling supple and revived, a quintessential way to begin 2012.

To get started, you’ll find most of your ingredients tucked away in your pantry. Here’s what you’ll need:

1/4 cup granulated (white sugar)

2 Cups Turbinado sugar (sugar in the raw)

1 Tablespoon of honey

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

1 Tablespoon of Tea Tree Oil (I purchased mine at an Aveda store – you are welcome to use Vanilla extract or your favorite essential oil)

Mason Jar, or recycled jam jar.

Directions:

First, combine the two sugars in a bowl and mix.

Add olive oil and stir thoroughly.

Mix in honey and your choice of essential oil.

Lastly, scoop body scrub mixture from the bowl into your mason/jam jar.

*Note: This is a coarse scrub. If you desire a more gentle scrub, substitute brown sugar for the Turbinado sugar. You may also add more olive oil to the jar if you want to achieve a different consistency. Lastly, this is intended for your body, not face!

Literally easier than making Easy Mac. Seal the lid on and place in your bathroom. Or, tie a bow around the seal and give to a friend as a gift. This scrub will leave you feeling like you just left a spa retreat. So burn a candle, put on some Hall and Oats, and let the exfoliation begin!
