Design DIY: Glittered Keys

Everyday items can always use some sparkle. In my case, it was my janitor ring of keys. I don’t have any special keychains, and my keys are strung to a plain lanyard, so it was time for some sprucing up to my mundane set of keys.

First, you’ll need:

– Your choice of glitter paint. I used Martha Stewart’s acrylic craft paint in Charlotte.

– Your desired key

– Newspaper/napkins to lay underneath your working space

– Paint brush

– Top coat/clear nail polish

Lay your key onto your newspaper/napkin area. Apply a small amount of paint to the “head” of your key. Wait to dry, roughly 20 minutes. Then apply a second layer of paint. If you feel that your key could use even more sparkle, add another coat after another 20 minutes has passed. Lastly, apply the top coat or clear nail polish to the sparkly head. Flip the key over and repeat this process on the other side. Give ample time for the other side to dry before flipping and applying to your key ring.

This is a fun and simple way to spice up ordinary items into something beautiful. Enjoy!
