The Style Guru: How To Sport The Ocean Trend

A key trend for Spring/Summer 2012 is inspired by the mesmerizing beauty of the aquatic.  Designers based their creations on sea creatures and mythological stories from the ocean.  Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen even stitched coral into her ethereal designs.  This spring’s catwalks were a refreshing mix of blues, sea greens and greys.  Futuristic prints and textured fabrics make this trend seem other-worldly.

To transfer this look into a wearable outfit, mix different shades of blues together.  Royal blue is great for pale skin and blonde/red hair.  If green is more your colour, mix it with certain shades of blue and teal.

Whites and blues blocked together can look great, but make sure you don’t go down the nautical end of the trend, as this look is more about the whimsical nature of the ocean.  Flashes of coral and metallic shades can add a space-age feel to this trend.  Team a silver bag with blocks of blues and greens.

Look for subtle detailing in the high street.  Stitching that has been inspired by fish scales and waves of the sea.  You’ll notice that soft drapery and wet-look fabrics are slowly trickling onto the high street.
