Designer Spotlight: Chanel Couture 2012

Chanel, cranking out collections like it’s going out of
style;

Okay, so there’s definitely no hiding the fact that color blocking is spring Season’s “it” girl. Bold, blocked off patterns and shades escorted the models down the runway as Chanel debuted the Spring 2012 Couture Collection. Ponchos and blazers stood out, noting the best article of clothing to wear especially for those rainy mid-march days. Cutout dresses were featured, each expressing a high fashion detail that differentiated it from the rest. The most apparent trend was the multiple, iconic shades of blue. Ombre aquas, navys, and teals were the spotlight of hues, proving to be a winning pigment. Not only did the forms and shapes of the ensembles stun, but the bold move to stay with one color makes this collection blue-ribbon worthy.

Though couture can be a bit difficult to pull off in a campus environment, pulling trends from the looks can help take a redundant outfit to right off the runway. My favorite look Chanel created was the blazer over mini dress. Taking the simple bottom layer and bringing it alive with a leather jacket or printed blazer can create a whole different look. Color blocking can be done skillfully if you incorporate the accessories.

Though the ombre effect was introduced this winter, spring will be the time to ombre brights, neons, and pastels.

Seeing Chanel’s transformation from the previous collection (Chanel Paris-Bombay, which included a lot of white) is refreshing and just what fashionistas need to induce a spring fever. With a new season, try a new look in other areas as well; ombre your nails, or even your hair! Keep an eye out for color blocking, bold colors, and the Chanel inspired blue hue.
