The Style Guru: Animal Instinct

Whether it’s leopard print shoes or a zebra striped dress, animal print is something worth investing in.  It never really goes out of style and is very much in again this spring.

How do you wear it properly?

For instance, if your top is a tiger print, let the tights, skirt or pants be neutral and less busy.  If it’s your dress that has the print, then let your shoes be plain black or nude.

If you’re going for the ethnic or tribal look, you can get away with mixing different prints and layering up loads of colours.  You could wear a tribal print dress with an animal print scarf or shoes in the same color tones. Check out this colourful ensemble. Clashing print and colours can work well if the silhouette is right for you.

Another fresh way of wearing animal print is wearing it with monochrome.  Black and white animal print looks chic with blocks of white or black. A leopard print t-shirt can look very sophisticated with black leather pants. Add a touch of colour, like red or orange to brighten it up for summer.  Pixie Lott looks cute and sassy in this monochrome outfit.

If you’re not so keen on the wild side of fashion print, opt for abstract animal print.  It might be a top with blown up tiger stripes or magnified crocodile print.  I love Véronique Leroy’s abstract zebra stripes. It shows you can wear animal print and still look feminine.
