Character Wear: Barney Stinson

This week I realized that I have neglected to profile the wardrobe of Barney Stinston, a character so defined by what he wears that he personifies his clothes and has even sang songs about them! If you watch the show you know that Barney is very, very rarely seen out of his signature suit. If you don’t watch the show, you probably still know that.  One of his many ridiculous catch phrases, among other favorites like “Legend-wait for it-ary!” is “Suit Up!” His suits are important to him, and this week I’m re-profiling them to be more woman friendly! Start with a pair of shorts, black and not too tight. We want the outfit to be sexy, but classy.  Add a light blue oxford, but don’t button it up all the way like he would; show off a little bit of that décolletage! A black suit jacket will look great, but make it more womanly with a low fastening and three-quarter length sleeves.  A beaded necklace, I chose dark blue, will draw the attention to your face, the same way a killer tie would, and high black pumps will give you a fashionable edge, especially ones with a surprise red sole.  A silver watch is optional, but why not have a great piece that’s worth the money because it’s so high quality? Let your hair be free and loose, a bun will make the overall look too severe.

Beneath the miles and miles of bro-code loyalty and womanizing tendencies is a man with a heart of gold, and when you dress like him, try to bring that part of his personality to the surface. Oh, and when you look as good as you will in his signature outfit of choice, someone as sharply dressed as him may smile your way! But beware, if he’s anything like Barney, you may not want to stick around!
