Designer Spotlight: TrendyloveStyle Leggings

So far, 2012 has seen some incredible trends.

From color blocking to combat boots, fashion has been working hard this season to define versatility. When you think of a
statement piece, what comes to mind is usually jewelry or a graphic tee, maybe even some studded heels, but TrendyloveStyle all about showcasing your stems, not stilettos.

Carbon Magazine: Where and when did you start designing?

Zelis: I started making leggings for myself on 2010 in Seattle Washington. At that moment I was not trying to start a business or anything like that I was just experimenting with fabrics, inks and different techniques to create a fresh and unique look for my daily outfits, but everything changed when a friend told me about Etsy and suggested it would be a great idea to start selling some of my handcrafted pieces there. So I opened my Etsy shop on May 2010 and so far my leggings have sold worldwide.

CM: What inspires your designs?

Z: I gotta say music videos, fashion editorials and pop art paintings.

CM: What makes your brand of leggings different from others?

Z: So far I have learned that is all about presentation how you show others your work. Since I moved to New York City I have been trying to focus more on my photo work. I want my product to look fashionable but at the same time artsy and fun. Like I said to my friend, anyone can make leggings but not everybody can do a well fitted and durable pair of stockings and that’s why dancers and roller girls are supporting leg wear TrendyloveStyle.

CM: What is your favorite spring trend?

Z: look out for those bold graphic prints 🙂

CM: If you could see your product on a celebrity, who would it be?

Z: Omg I would love to see Beyoncé, Rihanna, M.I.A, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Lady Gaga, Bjork, Robyn, Santigold, Beth Ditto(vocalist Gossip), Karen O ( singer Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Lykke Li.

CM: Do you have a favorite piece you’ve ever designed?

Z: My white soft cotton jersey leggings with the silk-screened black triangles.

It’s definitely one of my best seller pieces.

CM: How do you keep up-to-date with the latest trends?

Z: I’m a big fan of BlogLovin. I love to drink my coffee or black tea meanwhile I go through all my favorite fashion/music/photography website/blog news. There’s nothing better than having all the important and recent fashion trends in one page.

CM: What advice do you have for aspiring designers?

Z: “Break the rules.”

Product Review

When I received my leggings I was instantly intrigued. The patterns screamed fabulous and style all at the same time. I couldn’t help but throw them on immediately, and when I did I felt like a sexy, modern artsy rock-star fashion queen. The leggings were definitely statement-makers, and I opted for them when I went downtown with the girls.
