The Style Guru: Monochromatic Styling

Thank goodness summer is almost here! Happily, you only need to choose one color for this trend; no mess or fuss, monochromatic styling is here to help! Now, single color outfits are certainly nothing new, but this season we can embrace our colourful side and jump head to toe in a rainbow of color, which is a lovely bright change to the usually muted white-black single colour looks.  With celebrities and designers alike embracing this fun trend, we can witness a more modern spin on sophisticated dressing.  Take your own style into account, and use single hues or try mixing varied shades of a single colour.  The great thing about this trend is that it works with practically every colour; However, opting for bright colours will result in a more vibrant and bold statement.

Here are a few tips to keep your look interesting, and stylish

Select separates with uncomplicated silhouettes; this will help you look leaner, taller and more chic, you also want to limit the number of pieces you wear.  You want to avoid voluminous outfits and unnecessary layering.  Keep it simple and add punches of life to your outfit with a coloured heel or purse.

Pair neon brights with pastels: by using multiple shades of the same hue you can create a more visually appealing outfit. A great example of this is designer Adam Lippes for his S/S 2012 collection; he paired a neon pink sheer top with pastel cuffed pants. By using a range of the same colour you add a more playful look to your classy single-coloured outfit.

Opt for lighter or sheer tops: You can easily pair this with a casual trouser or skinny pastel jean. The key is to keep it looking relaxed, although you may be wearing tailed attire, it does not have to feel so formal. Try choosing your separates with a sporty, yet chic manner, it will stay true to current trends and be comfortable, no matter what your day has in store.
