With the arrival of July we can finally start taking advantage of this summer, and hit up the beach.

From California to Spain, fashionista’s everywhere will be packing the ultimate beach necessity, swimwear. So to celebrate the rays of sunshine here are your best choices for summer beachwear.

First, let’s take a look at vintage inspired/retro swimwear. As a flashback to the 1950’s we normally think of Miss Monroe, with all her glam and sex appeal. This playful look has been reoccurring in fashion for decades, and for good reason. There are the bonuses of a little more coverage, a little more push up on top, and it really helps show off a girls feminine side. Key features to look for are a cinched in waist, high waisted bottoms, fuller cupped tops, and playful prints or stripes.

The second trend making a boom this season is crochet bikinis. This trend is also a throwback style influenced by the return of the 1970’s. The intricately woven swimwear is perfect for a little something different to show off while catching some rays, and because of the eye catching details it offers that extra burst of sex appeal that every woman wants from her swimwear.

A newer trend to mention is “statement strapping”. Although this trend is not seen as much on the beaches, their is something interesting and sexy about it. This trend is a bit harder to get right than more traditional style swimsuits. However, if you feel confident, do it. Their are many ways to wear this style, from wide statement strapping on bottoms, to a more sporty style and even string options that are almost considered a monokini. The most important thing to rock this look, is to have confidence. If this is not quite up your alley, then don’t feel alarmed it’s a bit out there and will likely not flatter everyone.

Another favorite of the season is sporty swimwear, drawn from the “sportswear trend” this spring it is now a great addition to swimsuit offering of the season. Although, this trend does include the famous Speedo one pieces, we can have a bit more fun with the new twist on this old trend. Look for swimsuits that incorporate sporty elements that will add a fresh new take on your swimwear such as; mesh, zippers, cut away’s, and bold colours.

Although these are not the only swimsuit trends this season, it is important to find what works for you and your style. Swimwear trends are a slower pace to the typical fashion trends, so don’t be afraid to purchase something that will last you a couple seasons. Try something new, and remember to keep the balance between functionality and sex appeal.
