Love Sick: Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Love Sick: Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

It’s summertime yet again and in most places around the United States, people are heading outdoors to enjoy the warm weather and attempt to turn their unsightly pale body into a sexy bronzed one. However, as enjoyable as the summertime heat can be, unless you live in AZ where you feel like you’re melting, the human body has a very unfortunate reaction to the sunny rays. Sweat.

Growing up, I always envied the girls that seemed to be able to lounge about in 100 degree weather without having so much as a tiny bead of sweat drip down off their forehead. Due to some unfortunate genetics, thanks Mom!, I have to have an arsenal of anti-perspirants to guard myself against turning into a nasty Sweaty Betty.

But even pretty girls like Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr sweat.

As if middle school isn’t a bad enough time to be worrying about your pits, you grow up and have to worry about them on dates with very cute boys. Summertime is the perfect time to plan an outdoor date, such a hiking or a picnic, and the last thing you need to be worried about is if you smell. And if you do smell, well there just might not be a second date.

But have no fear, the love doctor is here. Combating sweating problems is easy peasey and before you know it you’ll be able to stop worrying about your underarms and start impressing your dates with your knowledge the political upheaval in the Middle East.

In the past couple of years, deoderant companies have finally come to the realization that yes, some girls do sweat as much as men, and have developed extra strong anti-persperant formulas. Secret Clinical Strength and Dove Clinical protection are both deoderant/anti-persperants that smell great and have higher levels of aluminum zirconium to help keep sweat levels down. They usually only cost about $8 at Target and work amazingly well at keeping you fresh all day.

I also recommend that during outdoor get-togethers, you keep a small travel-sized deoderant in your purse just in case. If you feel like you’re beginning to smell, a quick application in the bathroom will keep your worries at bay and keep your date close to your side.

For those with extreme sweat problems that even these two options can’t dam up, there is still hope. There is a brand of anti-persperant that has been on the market for years that targets over active sweating. It’s called Certain Dri and can be found for about $10 at any drugstore. It’s a roll-on that you apply at night so it can start working early to plug up your sweat pores. You need to use deoderant with it, as Certain Dri has no scent. There are also underarm sweat pads that you can buy that stick to the underarm of a shirt and soak up any excess sweat. Obviously with this option, tank tops and summer dresses have to be ruled out as outfit options.

Now get on out there and have the confidence to put your arms around your man without fear of turning him off with the stench of your B.O.
