Columnist of the Month: Brady Crews

There is so much wonderful talent here at Carbon that we wanted to give our readers a behind-the-scenes look at our team of writers, thus featuring one of our writers each month. Our November columnist is Brady Crews (Linked to Fashion)! We sat down with Brady for an interview on her personal style:

Carbon Magazine: How would you describe your personal style?
Brady: I feel like my personal style is pretty versatile. I go from feminine to grungy to preppy on any given day. I also like to mix and match everything. I love boho-chic because I like flowy clothing, fringe and feathers! I also think accessories are very important. I really like pretty studs and watches. My favorite accessory that I have an abundance of is sunglasses! I can’t get enough!

CM: In which ways do you utilize your personal style to find fashion articles for Linked to Fashion?
Brady: I research things I like. I won’t ever write about something I wouldn’t wear myself or that I’m not interested in. I check out a lot of fashion blogs on a daily basis. When I find a blog I like, I look at the links that they have on their pages as well. I assume there will be a chance I might like those ones too.

CM: In your opinion, what is the most inspiring decade or era for fashion and how do you incorporate that into your wardrobe today?
Brady: I think we’ve taken a lot away from each era, sometimes without realizing it. From the ’50s we got the Ray-Ban Wayfarers which are still widely popular today. In the late ’50s and early ’60s, boots became an actual fashion piece rather than a shoe worn for workers. The ’70s and ’80s brought us hippy flairs and leg warmers among many other trends. From then on, we’ve kept up those styles. I have all of those items in my repertoire and wear them all constantly.

CM: What are your three must have items for Winter?
Brady: I wear black a lot so I always have to have a good pair of black boots! I wear them out just about every winter and have to get a new pair! I’m obsessed with scarves of all shapes and sizes! I like to wear pretty cashmere ones to add color to my outfits as well as chunky-knit eternity scarves that keep me really warm!  I can’t leave the house without one in the winter! Lastly I’d say a really warm, chunky sweater. They’re so nice for lounging around the house or for pairing with skinnies and boots!

CM: What is the one thing in your closet that you can’t live without?
Brady: I can’t live without jeans! Skinny, wide leg, boyfriend, flair! I love them all! Skinny jeans are my go-to because they are easy to wear with heels or boots.

CM: In your opinion, who are the most influential fashion bloggers and why?
Brady: There are four bloggers whose sites I look at everyday. Blair from Atlantic-Pacific (http://atlantic-pacific.blogspot.com/), Liz from Late Afternoon (http://www.lateafternoonblog.com/) , Sydney from The Daybook (http://www.thedaybookblog.com/), and Krystal from This Time Tomorrow (http://thistimetomorrow-krystal.blogspot.com/). They all inspire me to be daring with my wardrobe. They are all fearless and mix up their wardrobes frequently.

CM: What are the strangest places that you look for fashion inspiration?
Brady: I think that fashion relates to most things in life. Music inspires me and can influence my fashion choices. When I listen to Bon Iver or Fleet Foxes I want to dress very natural and boho-like. When I listen to The Strokes I want to put on my boots and leather jacket. She & Him makes me want to put on a dress and pearls. Fashion is everywhere!
