Character Wear: Jess (New Girl)

Since the fall TV Season didn’t start that long ago, we have a whole slew of TV shows with wardrobes to envy.  There’s the old favorites; Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, Mad Men, Pretty Little Liars and Desperate Housewives.  Not to mention several new shows to keep on our radar, like The Secret Circle, Hart of Dixie and New Girl.  The styles these characters embrace range from 1960s classics to up-to-the-minute business chic, to trendy yet tough, to cute with a bit of whimsy.  Each character is so different from the next that their fashions all vary.  In many of these new shows, the fashionable characters are trying to make a new start or to fit in and their clothes reflect that change as they slowly go from one fashionable extreme to the next.  With so many cute and fashionable clothes, like Zoe Hart’s (Rachel Bilson) New York City chic mixed with Dixieland’s sweet down home fashion in Hart of Dixie, I can’t wait to see what my favorite characters will be wearing next!

For the re-launch of Character Wear, I’d like to focus on Jess (Zooey Deschanel) from New Girl! Jess is a quirky woman, beautiful yet socially awkward- a manic pixie dream girl.  She is a kindergarten teacher and her wardrobe reflects all aspects of her character.  Her outfits are sweet and innocent, showing very little skin, while still being very cute.  She wears a lot of cardigans and sweaters, and almost always wears skirts with tights.  To recreate her look, you’d need to find a full skirt.  It can have any pattern or color, so long as it’s this kind of cut.  A cute sweater or cardigan is a must, preferably in a fun, bright color like the featured turquoise! Top it off with complementary tights, Mary Janes and a cute, but simple, bracelet and your outfit is complete! Put waves in your hair, swipe on some dark pink lip gloss and you’re ready to step out the door looking as sweet as Jess. But don’t stop there! When wearing an outfit like hers, try to be as sweet and true to yourself as she is!
