Character Wear: Amelia Pond

Alright, I’ll admit it; it’s time to come clean.  I’m secretly (the people who know me personally would say not-so-secretly) a huge nerd.  I like Star Wars, I really like the SyFy Channel, I really, really like Harry Potter, and I love Lord of the Rings.  Another geeky thing I really love is the extremely long-running British show Doctor Who.  So this week I’m going to profile the Doctor’s current companion, the spunky, trendy, Amelia “Amy” Pond.  This companion is probably my favorite female companion that the Doctor has ever had.  She is opinionated, rambunctious, sarcastic, young, and sexy, all while simply being the girl everyone wants to know.

Amy Pond’s style changes throughout the course of the time she is on the show, but she’s always stylish.  I’m going to focus on how she dressed towards the beginning of her companionship with the Doctor because it’s more youthful.  The color palette of her clothes is mainly red, blue, maroon, with black and brown as her neutrals.  Start with a black or dark denim mini skirt with sheer black tights underneath.  For her shirt, go with a fitted v-neck tee or light knit in maroon, red, or blue if you’re daring.  Then add her chocolate brown leather bomber jacket.  Make sure it fits you well and hits at your waist, just above your hips.  She’s seen wearing combat boots most often, but sometimes she wears cowboy boots or navy Converse high tops.  I prefer the combat boots because they are the toughest, and you need to be tough to travel through space and time saving the world, like Amy does! Hair wise, she’s pretty simple.  Her fiery red hair is enough for her, so she never does much with it.  If you’re brave enough, you can dye your hair red too, but if that’s a little too wild for you, just give it a slight curl and put on a simple headband or pin it back with bobby pins.  The last thing you should do to embody Amelia Pond is paint your nails some sort of wild, fun color and put on some matte dark pink lipstick.

Amy is tough and sassy, and she’s often the one who ends up saving the Doctor, rather than the other way around.  She’s compassionate and loving, and smart as well.  You don’t have to travel the infinite reaches of space like Amy does in order to save someone or show them compassion!  I hope that when you dress like her, you take on some of her bravery and passion and show someone a kindness, even if it intimidates you.  And don’t forget to be spunky, that’s a must!
