Character Wear: Lemon Breeland

This week my family and I have been thinking about getting ready for Christmas, which in turn got me thinking about tradition; and where in the SU has more tradition than the south! So I thought that this week I would profile my favorite southern belle on TV right now, Lemon Breeland from Hart of Dixie.  At the start of the show, Lemon is the catty, jealous fiancé of the wholesome, charming, perfect George.  However, as the show progressed, more and more layers of her personality were revealed. Even though she’s usually wound pretty tight, she can also let loose and pull of an epic practical joke.  Even thought she’s catty, she’s also incredibly brave.  Even though she’s tough on people, she’s also very loving, underneath.  She’s still portrayed as the villain of the show because she doesn’t like the main character, yet Lemon is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters on TV!

Lemon’s style is very classic and very stylized.  She almost always looks like she came straight out of the fifties.  Start with a pair of classic muted or pastel pumps.  Panty hose is a must; you have to keep it classy! Then put on a dress with a full skirt that is knee length or tea length.  Try to get one with a pattern, the more floral, the better.  If you’re brave you could try out one with Lemon’s signature fruit as the pattern! Pair the dress with a bright, complementary cardigan, like the yellow one I used.  Don’t go for a trendy cardigan, aim for a more classic, high neck version; and a little cloth embellishment never hurts.  Set your hair in soft curls and put on some dark pink lipstick and your Lemon Breeland look is complete.  When you’re dressed like Lemon, embrace her tough outer shell and soft, gooey center.  Then, when your day is done, get yourself to the nearest computer or TV and fall in love with Lemon Breeland’s character like I did!
