Beauty Box: blinc Mascara

If I could only use one beauty product for the rest of my life, it’d be mascara. Though I have naturally long, dark eyelashes, the tips are blonde, causing them to look shorter than they actually are. One swipe of mascara and bam! My whole face brightens up, I look instantly awake, and my best feature (my eyes) is highlighted. So obviously my choice in mascara is very important to me. I tend to always stick to the tried and true Maybelline Great Lash mascara, however, when I got this blinc mascara in my Birchbox, I had to try it.

I was intrigued by the description on the tube that told me to “stop painting your lashes…tube them!” It claimed that the formula was designed to “tube” your lashes thus preventing the mascara from running, smudging, clumping or flaking. I liked that idea of it not clumping, because the Great Lash mascara does have a tendency to do this and I have a horrible habit of picking my mascara off my eyelashes. The bigger the clumps, the more likely I’ll pick and by the end of the day my mascara is all gone. After applying this product, I noticed immediate differences. The mascara does seem to “tube” around the eyelashes, making each individual lash stand out more. However, because of this, my eyelashes didn’t look as thick as they normally do. The claim that it won’t run, smudge, clump, or flake is 100% true. My mascara was exactly the same way from the moment I put it on to the end of the day, which seems like a good thing, until you try to wash your face before bed.

This mascara is a bitch to get off. I couldn’t do my typical picking of it off, because the mascara was so stuck on that I literally pulled out my eyelashes (ouch!) when my habit got the best of me. And when I tried to wash it off, it didn’t seem to budge. It wasn’t until I got in the shower and fully immersed myself in water that I was able to remove it. And here’s the weirdest part, instead of it just washing off naturally, you have to pull it off. You cover your eye in water and just grab an end and all the mascara comes off in this big, long string. It’s so creepy and such a pain in the ass. And don’t even think of trying to re-apply this stuff without washing it off first. Sometimes I get lazy and don’t wash all my mascara off at night and just touch it up in the morning. When I tried that with this stuff, my lashes literally felt like they were going to crack in half because they were so crunchy from the mascara.

So overall, I wouldn’t recommend this product. It might be good for an all-day outdoor event because you won’t have to worry about smudging, but it’s definitely not something you want to put into your everyday routine. Plus, at $25 per tube, you’ll save loads of money just by sticking with a $4 tube of Maybelline Great Lash.
