Character Wear: Sherlock Holmes

I love British style, and I especially love traditional British menswear, it always looks so sharp! One of my favourite British men is the super sleuth Sherlock Holmes.  Though traditionally he wears a cape and a ridiculous deerstalker hat, the BBC has reinvented him in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch in its new show Sherlock.  This Sherlock Holmes is clever, resourceful, and intelligent, not to mention a borderline sociopath, but he secretly cares deeply about his close friends and family.

His clothes, like his character, are a mix of old and modern British style.  I updated it even more so women can pull off this style.  Start with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and a mildly sheer button up with a little bit of feminine flair.  A pair of heeled brogues keep the outfit classic.  A silk scarf is a pretty and sleek version of Sherlock’s knit scarf, and is perfect for this outfit.  A dark trench coat with the collar turned up makes you look cool and mysterious.  A magnifying glass necklace alludes to Doyle’s original Sherlock, plus it’s super cute! Notice that I kept the outfit’s color palette dark, with the scarf being the only real pop of color; that’s the traditional feel I was talking about earlier.  And that’s how you dress like a modern Sherlock Holmes, now get out there and solve a mystery!
