Character Wear: Benny Rodriguez

Classic summer movies may come few and far between but one that instantly comes to mind is The Sandlot.  When a new boy moves into the neighborhood, Benny Rodriguez takes him under his wing and introduces him to the intriguing world of baseball.  They get into many adventures taking place everywhere around town and causing commotion from the baseball diamond to the local pool.  This movie is a must-see classic that will be sure to put you in the mood for summer.

You might be thinking, “Why would I want to dress like a little boy from the sandlot?”, but with a few changes here and there, I have come up with a casual, comfortable ensemble  perfect for a day at the diamond! Benny is always seen in a comfortable tee, loose fitting shorts and his trusty pair of Converse sneakers.  Starting on top I thought, “What would be better then a three-quarter-length baseball tee?” I chose a classic red one with a cute graphic printed on the front.  Any color would work so choose your favorite and coordinate everything else based on that.  With the trendy high-waisted shorts being “in” this summer, the baseball tee would be perfect tucked into a medium washed, high-waisted denim short.  The most recognizable and important part to get your Sandlot look is a pair of high top Converse sneakers.  A pair of red ones tie in the red on the sleeves of the baseball tee perfectly.  Along with this classic feel, I chose the most recognizable classic sunglasses, Ray-Bans.  The 50’s and 60’s feel of these glasses are perfect to turn back time and give your outfit a certain timeless swagger.  When accessorizing this outfit there is only one rule, get funky.  Contrasting blue nails with a hip mustache ring is perfect to top off this ensemble.  When creating a casual look, it is important to remember that less can be more! So slide into home with this cool summer time look because bad style could get you the title of an “L, 7 weenie!”
