Character Wear: Baby (Dirty Dancing)

It’s time to put on your dancing shoes this week because Frances Houseman, better known as Baby, steps onto your screen in perfect summer-inspired attire from the classic movie, Dirty Dancing.  Baby goes away for summer vacation with her family to a holiday camp where she tests the boundaries of her parents and starts taking dance classes. Of course, she helplessly falls in love with her dancing instructor.  With shock and awe, Baby blows away her family at the final recital doing an enchanting routine with her true love. This classic movie shows how fashion recycles itself with cropped tops and high-waisted shorts, all perfect for summer time!

In one scene, Baby is dancing with her instructor, Johnny, in an easy, casual ensemble of a cropped tied white top, bermuda denim shorts and white sneakers.  Since tie blouses are a hit this summer, I started with a floral tie blouse from Forever 21. Instead of plain white, the floral print spices up a simple blouse giving your wardrobe a nice touch of color.  On the bottom, I chose medium-washed denim bermuda shorts matching Baby’s. For the most important part, the dancing shoes, I chose a pair of classic plain white Keds that are both comfortable and cute! These Keds can be a nice staple in your wardrobe because they can be easily paired with almost any outfit. With this garb being so casual I decided to accessorize it with just simple golden heart earrings and an adorable white flower cocktail ring. I feel its important not to over accessorize, so make it easy by picking smaller accessories like stud earrings and a ring or one larger focal point accessory like chandelier earrings.  Finally, once you’re fully dressed and accessorized, it’s time to step on the dance floor and get your groove on in style like Baby from Dirty Dancing.
