Conscious Fashion: Alternative Apparel

Conscious Fashion: Alternative Apparel

Alternative Apparel has been a go-to for online shopping for me for a while now. They have so many cute, simple and eco-friendly pieces for both men and women. When I’m not at work, I am almost always in something comfy. Cotton V-necks, cotton dresses, cotton boxsies- you name it. Alternative Apparel offers loads of soft cotton t-shirts, tanks and dresses that just make me want to have a picnic and nap under a shady tree!

Besides having cute clothes, Alternative Apparel is also a company that is focused on good business ethics of all sorts. About 25% of their products are made in the U.S. (The industry average is somewhere around 10%); they donate part of their profits to environmental charities and organizations; and they are obsessed with quality.

Now here’s the part I love the most. They offer about 30% of their clothes in organic or eco-friendly material. It’s their Alternative Earth line and the styles in this line are some of their most popular. According to their website, Alternative Earth is “a collection of eco-friendly products manufactured with organic cotton, recycled polyester and man-made fibers derived from sustainable raw materials such as rayon.” They also have careful standards for all their vendors and manufacturers and guidelines for dye and wash methods. This makes me and my Conscious Fashion-writing self very happy!
Overall, this is such a cool company that seems to be doing something right. They’ve got a shop in Herald Square in NYC and they’re opening a store in Venice Beach, California in April and I can’t wait to check it out!

I know your homepage is set to Carbon and that you hardly ever navigate away from this page, but take a second to look around the Alternative Apparel site!
Here’s their Alternative Apparel Spring 2011 Women’s Look Booka rad Striped Tank and their Sustainability Blog!
