Conscious Fashion: Design DIY
This Conscious Fashion column is not just for your closet. As we learned from our friends, the Cotton Monsters, conscious fashion ideas are everywhere. Recently, I visited a friend of mine, who lives with a few roomates. Between them, they have come up with some really inspirational design ideas that incoorporate recycled or re-used materials. The first one is their Hall of Clipboards, as I have named it. The girls re-purposed old clipboards into picture frames. They are adorable and convenient, because all you have to do is clip up new pictures whenever the mood strikes you. Here’s a tip: order your prints in matte because the glossy looks a little strange with the vintage look of the clipboards.
The second design idea I loved from this house was their mirror scrapbook. This roommate took an old full-length mirror frame and hung it on her wall. She happens to collect postcards, so she is gradually filling the frame with them. This longer piece makes for a great above-the-bead decoration. It also would work well to fill up an empty hallway. Here’s another tip: spray paint a plain white one in hot pink or teal for a real pop of color.
