Ever Present Past: More Mad Men Please!

So if you’re anything like me, you might be suffering from MMW- better known as Mad Men withdraws. Yes I have tried everything to stop this from taking over but alas nothing seems to help. I end up coming up with new scenarios in my head of what Joan, Betty and Rodger are doing right now in 1965. Pointing out a dress in H&M while saying out loud  “this is sooooo Peggy”, and staying up late with my sisters while having a Mad Men marathon. Yet the new season is not going to be on our TVs until March so we will just have to make do with the above.

So this week I’m going to have a little fun and talk about some of the fashions that these characters wear and how to make them a little more modern for this coming fall.

Betty loves herself an A-line dress or a Circle Skirt with a crinoline underneath it for a full swishy fun time. Pairing something like this with a really simple T-shirt is a great way to achieve a more modern feel to an outfit that has a vintage inspired look.

Joan likes to show off her stuff in close fitting clothes but still keeping it classy, and classic with a really simple Pencil Skirt which see knows is really great for work, but can be dressed up for a night out in the city with her husband. Which can still be a popular outfit of choice today. Joan is not known to over accessorize so an oversized broach usually adorns her blouse.

Peggy is all about simplicity and separates, Peter Pan collar blouses must line her closet walls by the bunches, while Polka Dot skirts are her casual look for going to go see Bob Dylan in concert or going to a artsy loft party. She’s like a geeky sweet Jean Senberg.

Don Draper the man that we all know and love does those Aviators that he wears proud. He’s never self-conscious even when he’s wearing a typical Plaid Shirt that is standard uniform for a 60s dad. There’s something special when Draper wears it, and he knows it.
