Conscious Fashion: Miss Bright Eyes

It seems that the eyewear industry is beginning to see things in a new light. A variety of up-and-coming and well known designers have recently launched eyewear lines that support the environment. Three of my favorite designers are:

Proof: Proof sells high quality sunglasses made from sustainable wood sources; Proof describes their sunglasses as being “Naturally Classic.” The motto behind this company is: Look Good. Do Good.  A portion of every sale goes to supporting a worthy cause a.k.a doing good. Proof believes there is no project too small or big.  Proof currently supports: eye care clinics in India, rebuilding efforts in Haiti and recycling within the eyewear industry. Stella McCartney: The design team at Stella McCartney has been hard at work researching new ways to deliver style while supporting the environment. The new Spring Summer 2012 Collection is the culmination of this research. The latest line by Stella McCartney successfully delivers a collection that focuses on the increased use of raw and natural materials while remaining classic and chic. Marc by Marc Jacobs: The latest efforts by designer Marc Jacobs are focused on supporting The Nature Conservancy. Through the “Plant a Seed- Grow Your Tree and Save the Forest” program, The Nature Conservancy and Jacobs hope to rebuild Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. Currently, an astounding 93% of the forest has been demolished to make room for Brazil’s growing population. The program’s goal is to save the remaining 7% by planting one billion trees. In support of these efforts, Marc by Marc Jacobs will make a contribution to The Nature Conservancy. To raise further awareness, Marc by Marc Jacobs is offering a chic brown and green bio-based sunglass design. These glasses, made of castor oil, feature leaf-textured arms and come with a re-purposed leather case.  To support the cause by planting a virtual tree, click here
