Conscious Fashion: Wardrobe Detox

Bored? Sick of your wardrobe? Follow these 3 easy steps to wardrobe bliss!

1. We all know we have too many clothes, and your wardrobe most likely contains T-shirts from five summers ago and dodgy denim from your childhood. There’s nothing better than spending a day going through it all, having a laugh about the fashion disasters we’ve all made, and then feeling like you’ve got a fresh start with both your wardrobe and your mind. The best thing about having a clear out is that you may unearth some hidden treasures which could be re-worked, cut up and re-styled to something entirely different.

2.. Cut off the end of a sleeve of an old T-shirt in a cool bright colour or pattern and it becomes a home-made hair band! Stretchy materials work best for this. Old pairs of jeans are great for making into shorts- and a top tip is to stick to lose fitting styles. Skinny, tight fitting jeans don’t work as well when cut. Distress your jeans with a cheese grater and a pair of scissors for a laid back look. Or just cut in a straight line and roll up at the bottom for a more pared-down approach. You could even update an old pair of shoes as I’ve done on my recent wardrobe spring clean. Just grab some paints, studs, ribbon or anything you have around the house and have some fun!

3. So what happens with all the left over stuff that your creative genius won’t stretch too? Donate it to a charity shop or recycle it- it’s as easy as that. So in 3 easy steps you’ve de-cluttered your room, updated your wardrobe and helped the environment. Not bad for a day’s work!
