Kingsley’s Corner: Headgear

To all the cats out there: Has anyone ever been dressed up before? Unfortunately, I have! Like I have said before, I am a big cat! Since I have such nice curves, I tend to look a little ridiculous when I wear (or forced to wear) hats or things that accentuate to difference in the size of my head in comparison to the size of my body. I can’t help it. Anyway, let me tell you about it.

It was around Christmas and oh what a nice time of year. The weather was nice and cool outside (which made me not shed as much!) and everyone was in a good mood all the time. One day, Brittany came home with a couple of bags from Target like she does practically every other day. Although this time she had a huge grin on her face. She kept looking at me funny too. I was excited to see her though so I meowed and ran to my food dish. I love it when my moms follow me to my food dish to watch me eat!

Then, Brittany didn’t come right away. She was unloading the stuff from Target, and I peeked out from inside the pantry to see what she was so excited about. Then I saw some red thing with bells on it. She ran towards me with it. What was that?! She put it around my neck and giggled. I didn’t really mind it very much until I started walking. It jingled all the way around the house and everywhere I went! After I ran around a bit Brit came up to me with something else. She quickly tried to put it on my head. I couldn’t tell if it was a hat or what, but I did not like it at all. It felt ridiculous. Before I knew it, I was dressed up as a reindeer. It was so humiliating. At first I tried to just get it the hell off. Then after a couple attempts at the sturdy Velcro, I finally just sat and stared at mom. I was not happy and I wanted this headgear thing off right then and there. After Brit saw my expression she took it off. That was the end of the reindeer costume.

  • Hey Kingsley,

I’m glad I finally got a cat’s perspective on this. My mom used to torture my own cat Kiki with stupid outfits and headgear. I was always under the impression that my cat hated the stuff, but my mom kept using her as her own personal dress-up doll. At least your owner understands.

I like the writing. Please keep it up!

    Meow.

    • Kyle,
Thanks for reading Kingsley’s Corner! I’m so glad to hear that I am not the only cat that had to go through that. It really is embarrassing! Maybe it is just a phase that every cat owner goes through? However, I do think the dressing up is done out of curiosity and love. I hope Kiki understands that.

      Sincerely,
      Kingsley
